It is used in the production of diazepine and chloride. 2,3-Dimethylbenzene-1-carbonylchloride has been shown to be an organometallic compound that reacts with ethyl chloride to form ethyl chloride. This reaction product is also a pesticide that is effective against a number of insects and mites. The chlorinating agent can be used for radiation sterilization of medical equipment or as an insecticide in agriculture. Reaction products from the chlorinating agent include naphthalene and other aromatic compounds.
