Description:

2-[3-(Dimethylamino)-1-methoxy-2-propenylidene]malononitrile is a synthetic compound that can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds. Methylation of this compound yields ricinine, which has been shown to have potent cytotoxic activity against cultured mammalian cells. The cyclization product of 2-[3-(dimethylamino)-1-methoxy-2-propenylidene]malononitrile can also be used as a precursor for other compounds, such as methyl 5,6,7,8,9-pentaacetate and 3-[(dimethylamino)methylene]-2-methylpropanoic acid.
