2,3-Diaminophenol is a reaction intermediate that is used in the synthesis of other chemical compounds. It has been shown to have antitumour activity and can be used as an effective dose for the treatment of cancer. 2,3-Diaminophenol has also been shown to bind to thiol groups at high concentrations, which may lead to its use in antibody conjugation. Molecular modeling has been used to understand the structure and reactivity of this chemical compound. This research has led to clinical development studies on recombinant proteins with 2,3-diaminophenol as a catalyst. The reaction mechanism of 2,3-diaminophenol is not yet fully understood but it is hypothesized that it proceeds by way of a mesomeric transition state with two possible pathways: one unsymmetrical and one symmetrical.
