Description

1-(2,3-Dimethylphenyl) ethylene chloride (1DMPEC) is an industrial solvent that is used in the Friedel-Crafts reaction. It is also used as a salifying agent to remove rust from metal. 1DMPEC has been shown to produce midbodies in the presence of titanium tetrachloride and recrystallization with hydrochloric acid solution. It can also be used for the synthesis of medetomidine and dexmedetomidine, which are sedative drugs. The chemical has two chiral centers and therefore four possible stereoisomers; however, only one form is currently commercially available.
