Dodecylguanidine hydrochloride (DGDH) is a cationic surfactant that is used in wastewater treatment. It forms micelles with anionic detergents and organic solutes, which are then removed from the water. DGDH has been shown to be effective against p. aeruginosa when used in combination with benzalkonium chloride, a biocide. This molecule has a redox potential of -0.62 V at pH 7, which is below the oxidation potential for fatty acids (-0.76 V). DGDH also binds to fatty acids, which may account for its toxicity profiles. The dry weight of DGDH is about 914 g/mol.
