Description:
3,4-Dibromofuran (3,4-DBF) is an aromatic compound with a molecular weight of 226.2 g/mol. 3,4-DBF is a colorless liquid that has a boiling point of 215 °C and a density of 1.077 g/cm³ at 20 °C. It can be synthesized by the alkylation of 3,4-dibromobenzene with methyl magnesium chloride in ether followed by hydrolysis of the resultant methyl ethers. The regiospecificity of this reaction depends on the steric configuration at the bromine atom, which can be controlled by substitution on the benzene ring or by changing which substituents are present on the bromine atom. This compound exists as two enantiomers: (+)-3,4-Dibromofuran and (-)-3,4-Dibromofuran.
