3,5-Diiodosalicylchloride is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHIOSiCl. It is an antibacterial agent that is active against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. 3,5-Diiodosalicylchloride has been shown to induce apoptosis in methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and other bacterial strains. This effect was synergized by the presence of chloride ions and aluminum oxide. 3,5-Diiodosalicylchloride forms a reaction product with silicon at high temperatures, which can be used as an indicator of its presence in the environment. The melting point of this compound is around -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit). The yield of this compound in the synthesis process is around 30%.
