5,6-Dihydroxybenzofuran-3-one is a chemical compound that has been found in propolis. It has been studied for its in vitro activity against filamentous fungi and dermatophytes. 5,6-Dihydroxybenzofuran-3-one has shown minimal inhibitory concentrations of 0.25 mg/mL against dermatophytes and itraconazole (1 mg/L) against dermatophytes and mentagrophytes. The dilution method was used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentrations of 5,6-dihydroxybenzofuran-3-one against dermatophytes and mentagrophytes. This compound is not active against yeasts or molds.
