3,4-Dichlorobiphenyl is a bioactive molecule that has been shown to have predictive activity in rat liver microsomes. 3,4-Dichlorobiphenyl is reactive and activated by chlorine atoms and may form peroxides and free radicals. It is also capable of forming linear model adducts with biphenyl or butanol, which can be formed through a number of possible mechanisms. These adducts are considered to be congener derivatives of 3,4-dichlorobiphenyl. 3,4-Dichlorobiphenyl has been found to induce filamentous fungus in rats.
