2,4-Difluororesorcinol is a photostable molecule that can be synthesized with high yields. It has been shown to be demethylated in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and the active site for this reaction is located on the 2,4-difluororesorcinol molecule. This compound also undergoes oxidation to form reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ROS are generated by tyrosinase and monooxygenases. 2,4-Difluororesorcinol has been shown to have photophysical properties that are dependent on its oxidation state, which can be used for applications in solar cells. Oximetry measurements have shown that this compound is highly stable when exposed to light.
