Product Information

Name:
2-[Di(methylthio)methylidene]malononitrile
Synonyms:
  • [Bis(Methylsulfanyl)Methylidene]Propanedinitrile
Description:

2-[Di(methylthio)methylidene]malononitrile is a synthetic, reactive, and nitrous compound that has shown antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. It is an intramolecular hydrogen bond donor and the only member of its class. 2-[Di(methylthio)methylidene]malononitrile binds to the active methylene group in the enzyme's active site, disrupting the molecule's structure and inhibiting protein synthesis. The crystal x-ray diffraction analysis of 2-[Di(methylthio)methylidene]malononitrile shows that it is a crystalline solid with an orthorhombic unit cell.
