Pentadecapeptide is a thrombin inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme, preventing it from converting prothrombin to thrombin. This drug has high specificity for thrombin and low affinity for other serine proteases. It is synthesized by reacting 2-(methylsulfonyl)ethyl carbonate with lysine residues on cellulose acetate, which are functionalized with hydroxyl groups. The pentadecapeptide can be immobilized on metal surfaces using an aminopropyl-silane coupling agent. The amino acid composition of this drug can be modified to improve its stability in vivo or reduce immunogenicity.
