Product Information
1-(3,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)heptan-1-one is a chemical compound with a grignard reagent. Grignard reagents are strong nucleophiles that react with electrophilic groups in organic compounds. The 1-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)heptan-1-one is used as the target product in this reaction. A phase transfer catalyst is used to facilitate the reaction and backflow can be prevented by using chloroform as the solvent for the reaction. The grignard reaction is facilitated by adding a phase transfer catalyst, which also prevents backflow of the reaction mixture. The grignard reagent reacts with an electrophilic group on the target product to form an intermediate called an organomagnesium (RMgX). This intermediate then reacts with another molecule of RMgX to form a new bond between two carbon atoms and one magnesium atom.
