Product Information
- 2-(2,7-Dichloro-9H-Fluorenyl-4-Yl)Oxirane
2-(2,7-Dichloro-9H-fluoren-4-yl)oxirane is a benzene derivative that was first isolated in 1942. It has been used as an antimalarial drug and as a research chemical. 2-(2,7-Dichloro-9H-fluoren-4-yl)oxirane can be prepared by condensation of two equivalents of benzene with epichlorohydrin. This reaction requires a catalyst such as pyridine or sodium methoxide, and the product is usually isolated by extraction with diethyl ether. The five membered ring of the oxirane ring is also coplanar, which means that the carbon atoms are all in a single plane. The six membered ring is not coplanar, meaning that it does not have all the carbon atoms in one plane. Oxiranes are typically crystallized from chloroform or dichloromethane solutions using hexanes
