Description:

1,4-Dichloro-2-methylbenzene (1,4-DCMB) is a synthetic chlorinating agent that reacts with the substrate to form 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene. It is used for the chlorination of biphenyl and benzotrifluoride in Friedel-Crafts reactions. The reaction temperature is typically set at around 100°C. Recycling 1,4-DCMB can decrease the yield of byproducts and increase the yield of desired product. The molecular descriptors of this compound are Cl:H:C:O=1:1:1:0.5, which indicate that it has an aromatic ring with chlorine substituents on each ring carbon atom.
