9,9-Dimethyl-9H-xanthene is a mononuclear aromatic compound with a molecular weight of 206. It has an intramolecular hydrogen bond in the molecule, which is thought to be responsible for its thermally stable nature. 9,9-Dimethyl-9H-xanthene can be used as an antimalarial drug and has shown efficiencies against both Leishmania major and Pneumocystis carinii in vivo. This compound also showed x-ray diffraction study results that indicated bimodal distributions of the hydrogen bond lengths.
