Product Information

Name:
2,4-Dichloro-3-iodopyridine
Synonyms:
  • Pyridine, 2,4-dichloro-3-iodo-
Description:

2,4-Dichloro-3-iodopyridine is a reagent and intermediate that has been used in the synthesis of 2-chloro-3-iodopyridine. It has been shown to be selective for the site of iodination on the aromatic ring with respect to other sites. This compound also reacts with lithium diisopropylamide to form 2,4-dichloro-3-(2,4,6-trimethylpiperidinium)pyridine. The resulting product is an isomeric mixture of six different products. The product with the lowest basicity is selectively formed by deprotonation at the 2 position. This compound can also be used as a reagent in organic chemistry reactions where halogens are desired.
