N1,N1-Diethylbenzene-1,3-diamine is a synthetic chemical that has been used as a catalyst in the reduction of pyridinium chlorides to form amines. It can also be used for the alkylation of butyryl chloride, and the benzoylation of carbonyls. The reductive properties of N1,N1-diethylbenzene-1,3-diamine are due to its carbonyl group. This chemical is reactive with formic acid and nitro groups. It also has an absorption maximum at around 400 nm due to its chromophore.
