Product Information
4,4'-Dioctadecyl-2,2'-bipyridine is a ligand that has been shown to bind to the active site of cytochrome P450 enzymes and reversibly inhibits their activity. This compound binds to the heme-binding site in the enzyme and prevents electron transfer from the heme group to molecular oxygen. The structural integrity of the molecule is maintained by strong hydrogen bonds between its hydrophobic tails and exposed hydrophilic head groups. 4,4'-Dioctadecyl-2,2'-bipyridine also irreversibly inhibits electrochemical oxidation at an electrode surface.
