This compound has been shown to be able to react with styrene, halides, and enantiopure peroxides to give functionalized products. 3,7-dioxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptane is also capable of undergoing ring-opening reactions with some functional groups, such as hydroxyl or amino groups on alcohols or amines respectively. 3,7-Dioxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptane is a tetrahydropyran that contains six carbon atoms and seven hydrogen atoms in the molecule and is highly reactive due to its nature as a nucleophile.
