4,5-Dimethyl-2(3H)-thiazolethione is a tervalent compound that can be synthesized by reacting 2(3H)-thiazolium chloride with ethylene glycol. The product is a white solid at room temperature and has a melting point of about 236° Celsius. 4,5-Dimethyl-2(3H)-thiazolethione has an acidity of 1.65 in water and hydrochloric acid, and it can be used as an intermediate for the manufacture of other substances. The tautomeric form of 4,5-dimethyl-2(3H)-thiazolethione is the chloride form, which is also the major component. It has been shown to have an ionizing effect on aerosols when exposed to ionizing radiation or ultraviolet light. There are two optical isomers for this molecule: one with a mass/charge ratio (m/z) of 174 and one
