2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene has inhibitory properties which are due to its hydrogen-bonding interactions. It is a compound that has the ability to react with diazonium salts. 2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene can be used as an analytical reagent for the detection of hydroxyl groups and can be used in the quantitative determination of ph optimums in rat liver microsomes. 2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene also reacts with benzaldehyde to form a molecule that consists of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonding is an important factor in the reaction mechanism of this compound. The detection time for this compound is also short and it can be used as an analytical agent for microbial metabolism and analytical chemistry.
