N,N-Diethylbenzamide is a phenyl aryl halide that acts as an inhibitor of the enzyme polymerase chain reaction. It has been shown to have potent antinociceptive properties in rats and is also used as an analytical tool for the identification of urine samples. N,N-Diethylbenzamide has been shown to enhance the production of glycolaldehyde in rat liver microsomes by inhibiting the transfer reactions. The molecule has also demonstrated toxicity at high doses, with hippuric acid being the major metabolite. In molluscs (e.g., oysters), N,N-diethylbenzamide inhibits acetylcholinesterase and enhances nerve function.
