Diquafosol is an ophthalmic solution that belongs to the class of drugs called prostaglandin analogs. It is used in humans for the treatment of eye disorders, such as glaucoma and other conditions. Diquafosol is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue that has been shown to be effective in reducing intraocular pressure in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its inhibition of p2y receptors, which are involved in the inflammatory response. Diquafosol does not have any effect on the chemical stability of benzalkonium chloride and it can be used for long periods without any decrease in efficacy.
