(+/-)-Dihydrojasmonic acid is a hydrochloride salt of dihydrojasmonic acid. It is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by forming conjugates with fatty acids. (+/-)-Dihydrojasmonic acid can be used to prepare samples for analysis of fatty acids in urine samples, as well as for the determination of pH in body mass index (BMI) and acetate extract samples. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a major cause of lung disease in humans, in cell culture systems. This effect may be due to the ability of this compound to bind to mycobacterial cell wall glycolipids and mycolic acids, causing inhibition of mycolic acid synthesis. Fluorescence detection is often used for this type of assay because it allows for rapid and sensitive detection of changes in fluorescence intensity over time.
