Diethyl allylmalonate is a chemical compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It inhibits the ns3 protease enzyme, which in turn prevents the degradation of other proteins. The inhibition study showed that diethyl allylmalonate does not affect the metabolism of glucose, but has a significant effect on metabolites such as lactate, pyruvate and alanine. Diethyl allylmalonate has also been shown to be chemically stable in hydrochloric acid and solid catalyst for ester linkages. The bicyclic heterocycle structure of this compound may account for its cholinergic effects.
