Description:
1-(4,6-Dichloropyrimidin-5-yl)ethanone (1) is a nucleophilic chlorine atom. It attacks the carbonyl group in the presence of alkoxides to produce an intermediate that is subsequently attacked by chloride ion to form a chlorocarbonylchloride compound. The reaction can be monitored by observing the 1H NMR spectrum, which displays a signal at δ 7.2 ppm for the chloroformate ion and δ 3.6 ppm for the chlorocarbonylchloride product.
