Description

3,3-Dimethylcyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid (3,3-DCBA) is a modulating compound that affects the immune system by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. 3,3-DCBA inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 and leukotrienes, which are inflammatory mediators. It has been shown to be effective in models for autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. This compound also has anti-inflammatory effects in bowel disease models and has been shown to inhibit hepatitis B virus replication in human liver cells. 3,3-DCBA suppresses the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in human T lymphocytes and macrophages. The health effects of this drug are not well understood.
