Description

Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride is a drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as anesthetic agents. It is used to sedate patients before and during surgery or other procedures. Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride has shown clinical relevance in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, with a reduction of pain and improvement in quality of life. It also has been shown to reduce postoperative ileus, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride can be administered by intravenous or intramuscular injection. This drug does not have any effect on the cardiovascular system, although it does cause sedation and has been shown to increase heart rate. The drug is eliminated from the body through metabolism by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver, primarily CYP3A
