Description:
1,2-Diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine is a synthetic amino acid that is used in the preparation of monoclonal antibodies. It is produced by the enzymatic reaction of malic acid with a primary amine. 1,2-Diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine can be hydrolyzed to produce d -alanine and galactose. The uptake of this compound into cells has been shown to be influenced by pH and the presence of histidine. This method is being used for the treatment of leishmaniasis in hamsters, where it was shown to have an effect on both erythrocytes and macrophages.
