Product Information
Ethambutol is an antitubercular antimycobacterial agent that inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by inhibiting the activity of arabinosyl transferase. It has been shown to have a similar inhibitory potential as isoniazid and moxifloxacin, but less than rifampicin. Ethambutol's mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of mycolic acids in the cell wall. This inhibition slows down cell division and thus prevents the formation of new bacilli.
