Dichloromethane-d2 is a proton donor that reacts with electron-rich functional groups, such as hydroxyl and amine groups. It has been shown to react with glycol ethers, malonic acid, and trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of an electron-deficient acceptor. Dichloromethane-d2 also reacts with rat liver microsomes, forming a hydrolysis product. This reaction is catalyzed by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Dichloromethane-d2 has the ability to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. The molecule can bind to nitrogen atoms in proteins or nucleic acids. Dichloromethane-d2 forms hydrogen bond interactions with group p2 carbonyl oxygen atoms and hydroxyl group on the carbon backbone of DNA.
