2-(2,5-Diaminophenyl)ethanol is a colorant that is used in the textile industry to dye cellulose fibers. It reacts with the hydroxyl groups on the fiber to form a diazo group, which then reacts with nitrobenzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide to form a red dye. 2-(2,5-Diaminophenyl)ethanol has been shown to react with sulfate and resorcinol as well as influence the reaction yield when mixed with sodium borohydride. This colorant has been shown to be influential in keratin fibers because it can remove protein stains and improve hair condition.
