DFTFA is a perfluorinated compound that has been detected in human urine samples. It is also found in the environment as a result of its use as a chemical intermediate for manufacturing fluorocarbons. As an analytical method, 2,2-Difluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)acetic acid can be used to detect a variety of chemical species, including pharmaceuticals and drugs of abuse such as nicotine and cocaine. This compound can be used to measure the concentration of these compounds by using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry.
