Product Information
- 1,2-Dimethoxy-3-(2-Nitroethenyl)Benzene
2,3-Dimethoxy-b-nitrostyrene is a benzene derivative that can be synthesized by condensation of an ether with magnesium. The benzene ring can be reduced to an alcohol by the addition of hydrogen gas and a reductive agent such as sodium borohydride or lithium aluminum hydride. The cyclization reaction can be carried out in the presence of catalysts such as copper(II) acetate, zinc chloride, and potassium carbonate. The resulting product is then irradiated using microwaves and nitrated with nitric acid to produce 2,3-dimethoxy-b-nitrostyrene. This molecule has been shown to have cytotoxic properties against tumor cells and may be used for the treatment of cancer due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis.
