Dansylglycine is a fluorescent compound that has been used as a probe for studying the location and function of various enzymes, such as eosinophil peroxidase. It has dose-dependent effects on inorganic acid, with high doses inducing an increase in the production of picolinic acid and low doses inhibiting it. Dansylglycine also inhibits guanine nucleotide-binding proteins, which are involved in the regulation of protein synthesis and can be used to study collagen synthesis. Dansylglycine also binds to biological targets such as fatty acids and tryptophan fluorescence. Dansylglycine can be used to inhibit the activity of enzymes that are involved in drug metabolism by competing with other drugs for binding sites on these enzymes. This inhibition may lead to a change in enzyme activity or an increase in its concentration within cells.
