3,3-Dimethylallyl bromide is a chlorinating agent that can be used to produce chloride derivatives. It has shown effectiveness in treating HIV infection in mice by inducing the expression of growth factors, such as platelet-derived growth factor and transforming growth factor-β1. This compound also has antimicrobial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). 3,3-Dimethylallyl bromide is synthesized from coumarin derivatives and alkanoic acids by the allylation of an allyl alcohol with chloromethane.
