Alpha,beta-Dibromohydrocinnamic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the group of hydrophobic compounds. It is a white solid with a melting point of 132 °C and a boiling point of 300 °C. This substance is soluble in water and reacts with alkali metals such as sodium, potassium, and lithium. Alpha,beta-Dibromohydrocinnamic acid has two isomers: alpha-bromohydrocinnamic acid and beta-bromohydrocinnamic acid. The alpha form can be converted to the beta form by elimination reactions with alcohols or carbon tetrachloride, while the beta form can be converted to the alpha form by debromination using cellulose acetate as a catalyst. In addition, this substance interacts with micelles and forms crystal structures when dissolved in chloroform or benzene.
