Description:
2,2-Dichloro-1,1-diethoxyethane (DDEE) is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that has been used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of refrigerants and as a solvent for industrial coatings. DDEE can be detected by a variety of methods, including gas chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography. DDEE is typically analyzed using an alkoxy radical assay that determines the number of chlorine atoms present. The detection sensitivity is low enough to measure DDEE in water samples at parts per trillion levels. DDEE is also used as an electron acceptor in polymer film assays and has been shown to have reactive properties with ester compounds such as spiroadamantane.
