Product Information

Name:
4,5-Dichloroquinoline
Synonyms:
  • Quinoline, 4,5-dichloro-
Description:

4,5-Dichloroquinoline is a drug substance that is used as an antimalarial. It is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 174-176°C. 4,5-Dichloroquinoline has been shown to be effective against malaria and has been found to be relatively safe in humans. It can be synthesized by reacting 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline with phosphorus pentachloride. A validated HPLC method for the analysis of 4,5-dichloroquinoline has been developed and validated for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The impurities found in 4,5-dichloroquinoline are chloroanilines and quinolinium chlorides. These impurities have been detected using spectroscopic studies and linearity tests. Hydrogen bonding between these impurities may lead to the formation of new compounds during storage or while being synthesized.
