Description

4,5-Dichloroquinoline is a drug substance that is used as an antimalarial. It is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 174-176°C. 4,5-Dichloroquinoline has been shown to be effective against malaria and has been found to be relatively safe in humans. It can be synthesized by reacting 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline with phosphorus pentachloride. A validated HPLC method for the analysis of 4,5-dichloroquinoline has been developed and validated for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The impurities found in 4,5-dichloroquinoline are chloroanilines and quinolinium chlorides. These impurities have been detected using spectroscopic studies and linearity tests.
