2,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol is a linear aliphatic alcohol that can be extracted from plant sources. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against fungi and bacteria. 2,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol also has a high correlation with the headspace of tropical plants that are rich in this compound. This compound is used to evaluate the sustainability of microflora as well as its ability to produce activated oxygen radicals. 2,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol can be used for the production of biodiesel fuel and other sustainable products due to its low toxicity and high reactivity.
