3,3′-Diethylthiacyanine iodide is a fluorescent dye that has a helical structure and a viscosity of about 2.5 cP at 25°C. It can be dissolved in an organic solvent such as dodecane or chloroform. 3,3′-Diethylthiacyanine iodide is used to measure the concentration of vinyl alcohol in organic solutions, by measuring the rate of self-quenching of the dye due to its interaction with vinyl alcohol.
