5,6-Dimethoxy-1,3-benzothiazol-2-amine (DMTB) is a neuroprotectant that has been shown to dilate blood vessels and lower blood pressure in the carotid artery of rats. DMTB also appears to modulate the pharmacological effects of benzyl alcohol, a substance that can be found in cough syrups. This drug is structurally related to benzothiazoles, which are compounds that have been used as antihypertensives. DMTB was found to be calcium-activated and channel activated in vivo studies.
