5,10-Dihydrophenazine is a monosubstituted heterocyclic compound that has the potential to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. This molecule fluoresces in the near-ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum and has been found to be soluble in water. 5,10-Dihydrophenazine is also an acidic compound that can bind to chloride ions. The molecule’s surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) properties have been shown to change when it is activated by an amine such as ammonia or hydrazine. 5,10-Dihydrophenazine reacts as a secondary intermediate with amines and may be thermally or thermodynamically activated.
