Description

2-Deoxystreptamine is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. It has been shown to be effective against a number of diseases caused by microbial infection, such as infectious diseases and bacterial infections. 2-deoxystreptamine binds to the ribosome and blocks protein synthesis by inhibiting the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosomal A site. 2-Deoxystreptamine has been shown to inhibit both prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein synthesis in vitro, at concentrations that are not toxic to mammalian cells. The mechanism of action is believed to be due to the formation of a covalent bond between 2-deoxystreptamine and adenine residues in the 30S ribosomal subunit.
