This compound also has a phase transition temperature of -78°C, making it useful as a refrigerant in the food industry. The chemical stability of this compound makes it a suitable candidate for analytical methods such as gravimetric analysis and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 1,4-Diiodobutane is also used as an analytical method in gravimetric analysis because it has a high density (1.8 g/mL) and low vapor pressure (0.01 mm Hg at 25°C).
