Propafenone is a drug that belongs to the class of Class I antiarrhythmic agents. It is used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Propafenone has been shown to be effective in humans with structural heart disease and pharmacokinetic properties in patients with chronic oral administration. The terminal half-life of propafenone is approximately 12 hours and its elimination from the body can be detected for up to one month after discontinuation. It has also been found that propafenone inhibits P-glycoprotein (Pgp) efflux pump activity in humans.
