Vardenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor that is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. This drug is metabolized by esterases and hydrolysis to form n-desmethyl vardenafil, which has been shown to be more potent than the parent compound. N-Desethyl vardenafil has been found to be stable in urine samples and the matrix effect can be reduced by using a hydroxide solution and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
