Synonyms:
  • 4-[(4-Chlorophenyl)methyl]-2-(hexahydro-1H-azepin-4-yl)-1(2H)-phthalazinoneDemethylazelastine

Description:

N-Desmethyl azelastine is a drug that belongs to the class of anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been shown to inhibit histamine release in human lung tissue and to show anti-inflammatory activity in humans with allergic reactions. N-Desmethyl azelastine is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are found in the liver and other tissues. The drug binds to and inhibits the activity of these enzymes, thereby increasing the levels of other drugs that are metabolized by these enzymes, such as ciclosporin. This has led to reports of drug interactions when nadolol is given with nedocromil sodium or cimetidine.
