Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant drug that is used to treat chronic depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is known to have inhibitory properties on serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake, as well as blocking histamine receptors. Clomipramine has been shown to be clinically relevant in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. It also has been shown to increase autophagy in human serum samples. The N-desmethyl clomipramine hydrochloride (NDMCl) metabolite is an active metabolite of clomipramine, which can be found in human serum samples after administration. The NDMCl can be detected by LC-MS/MS methods, which are more sensitive than HPLC methods.
